OHIO — The Portage County Sheriff’s Office reports that its Portage Aggressive Crime Enforcement Unit (PACE) has recovered pounds of drugs, firearms, and more than $22,000 in cash during investigations over the past several months.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, PACE has been conducting criminal interdiction along Interstate 76 and Interstate 80. Seized items include:
- 37 grams of fentanyl/xylazine
- Over 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine
- 105 ecstasy pills
- Over 1 pound of cocaine
- 120 bottles of promethazine
- 48 pounds of marijuana
- Nearly 1 pound of khat
- $22,257 in drug proceeds
- 4 firearms from prohibited individuals
One recent seizure has been linked to a fatal overdose in a neighboring county. The suspect is currently held at the Portage County Justice Center, facing charges that carry up to 11 years in prison.
The Sheriff’s Office also warned of a growing presence of xylazine, or “tranq dope,” being mixed with fentanyl. Xylazine is a veterinary sedative that is not an opioid and can prevent Narcan from reversing overdoses, making the combination particularly dangerous…
