Cleveland man sentenced to prison in shooting death of Perry Township man

CANTON ‒ A 43-year-old Cleveland man has been sentenced to 16 to 21.5 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter and other crimes committed in connection with the death of David W. Ward.

Stark County Common Pleas Judge Kristin G. Farmer sentenced Myron E. Johnson on Aug. 29 after he pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge, felonious assault and related specifications that a gun was used in the crimes. He also pleaded guilty to having weapons under disability. He is prohibited from having a gun due to prior felony cases in Cuyahoga County.

Johnson was originally charged with murder for fatally shooting Ward, 57, on July 27, 2024, in Perry Township. The charge was amended to voluntary manslaughter as part of a negotiated plea agreement…
