Highland Heights man extorted for money after requesting more than a massage from supposed woman

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — A Cheriton Drive man said Aug. 25 that he began receiving harassing text messages after he booked a massage through an online website.

Believing that he was texting with a woman, he asked if he could pay more for sexual services. He eventually drove to Chagrin Falls to meet with the supposed woman, but before he met anybody, he received a message telling him to first purchase gift cards and provide the redemption codes. When he declined to do so, he began receiving threatening text messages from multiple phone numbers. One text included a photo of a masked man with a knife and mutilated bodies.

Officers assured him that it was a scam to extort money and to continue to block all numbers related to the incident. They advised him that they would also give special attention to his home…
