Akron Soul Train opens new exhibitions

DOWNTOWN AKRON — Akron Soul Train, 191 S. Main St., currently is exhibiting artists-in-residence Julia Betts and Christa Ebert, and literary trio Dr. Matthew Dettmer, Michelle Duke and Kristen Tetzmann through Sept. 27.

A public opening reception will take place Sept. 5 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Inspired by the act of watching her niece color, Betts’s installation “The Dams are Broken” examines themes of confinement and liberation, as well as navigating the complex moments of vulnerability when boundaries are ruptured. Through this installation, Betts invites viewers to reflect on the fragile negotiation of bodily, emotional and spatial boundaries…
