Are you eligible for free air conditioning? Deadline to apply for HEAP assistance ends Sept. 30

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Summer is winding down, but Cuyahoga County residents still have until the end of the month to apply for help with their cooling costs through the state’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) summer crisis program.

The program, offered in partnership with the Ohio Department of Development and the Cuyahoga County Division of Senior and Adult Services (DSAS), can help income-eligible households with paying electric bills, purchasing an air conditioner or fan, or repairing central air conditioning units.

It is especially designed to support Ohioans who are most vulnerable during extreme heat, including those 60 and older and individuals with qualifying medical conditions such as asthma, lung disease, or COPD. Residents have until Sept. 30 to apply…
