Operation Double Eagle rounds up dozens of weapons and accused violent offenders in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Local state and federal authorities on Thursday brought months of investigation to a close with the roundup of nearly 40 alleged violent criminals and the confiscation of 46 illegal guns.

“Today’s indictments include charges for drugs and firearms violations, conspiracies distribution of cocaine, distribution of methamphetamine, distribution of marijuana and possession of firearms in furtherance of those crimes,” said David Toepfer, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.

Authorities say the investigation started by looking into five areas of Akron where the most gun related crimes were taking place.

Most of those who were arrested on Thursday are being held on federal charges, but many of them already have criminal records…
