Akron Public Schools (APS) is proud to announce that our educators and schools have received prestigious recognition from The Ohio Academy of Science. A remarkable 865 of our teachers from 40 APS schools were honored with the Governor’s Thomas Edison Awards for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research. This achievement is a testament to the district’s significant leadership in STEM statewide and a monumental win for our community.
“This award is a testament to the hard work and passion of our incredible educators,” said Akron Public Schools Superintendent Mary Outley. “They are not just teaching subjects; they are fostering a love for discovery and innovation that is directly impacting our district’s performance. By embedding high-quality STEM curriculum, our teachers are helping to improve academic outcomes across the board, preparing our scholars for the jobs of tomorrow and for a lifetime of success after graduation.”
This outstanding accomplishment is further highlighted by the statewide context: out of the 76 schools recognized across Ohio, more than half (40) are from Akron Public Schools. Furthermore, out of the 1,244 teachers recognized, 865 (70%) are from Akron Public Schools. This means a majority of the state’s honorees are our own.
