Akron schools traded 11 lawn mowers for $12,400. Employees resold them for double the profit.

Eleven lawn mowers that Akron Public Schools traded in because they were no longer usable never made it to the Macedonia equipment dealer that accepted the trade-ins.

The mowers instead were delivered to the homes of three Akron Public Schools employees, including the Wadsworth home of then-Facilities Services Director Steven Keenan.

Keenan advertised one of the district’s traded-in mowers as “practically new” because it had only 57 hours of use. He was selling the lawn mower, which had a trade-in value of $1,000, for $3,500. It sold…
