An Akron child is recovering following a gunshot wound to the face, an incident that has the Akron Police Department actively investigating. According to a press release from Akron police and shared by WKYC, the event occurred on Sunday around 12:30 p.m. when police responded to a shooting at the 400 block of Palmetto Avenue. The boy, before law enforcement could arrive, walked to the Akron Fire Department Station 13 for help, where officers later found him suffering from his injuries.
The young victim was then treated by paramedics before being transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital, as per the Akron Police Department statement. The injuries, while severe, are reported by officers to believed be non-life-threatening. Detectives are currently piecing together the moments leading up to the shooting.
