Hang out with a friendly bat in children’s book ‘Floppy’s Home’

A bat can live to be 40 years old, but Floppy has been hanging around a lot longer than that.

In the endearing “Floppy’s Home: Bats Just Want Friends Too” by Green native Madeline C. Lanshe, Floppy the Bat is all alone in his great stone house. Then a family moves in: The children love Floppy and take him sledding and on backyard picnics. They play hide-and-seek in the laundry chute.

Then they move away. The new people find Floppy a nuisance until he begins visiting the sick children in the house. They love him — until they leave and still more residents arrive: They are older folks who need kindness and attention…
