DOJ files trademark lawsuit against Stow man imprisoned for peddling fake body armor

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The federal government has sued a Stow businessman serving a five-year prison sentence for selling fake bulletproof vests, mostly to police departments.

The Office of National Institute of Justice, part of the U.S. Department of Justice, filed a trademark infringement lawsuit this week against Vallmar Studios and ShotStop Ballistics owner Vall Iliev.

Iliev, 70, forged National Institute of Justice labels that he put on the counterfeit body armor so customers would think that Iliev’s armor held up to the agency’s rigorous testing standards, the lawsuit said…
