Akron Children’s Hospital Nurse Denaye Beckler Honored with 2025 National Award for Local Vascular Access Excellence

Denaye Beckler, a vascular access nurse at Akron Children’s Hospital, has received the 2025 Impact Award from the Association for Vascular Access (AVA). The award recognizes AVA members who contribute to vascular access at the local level. Beckler joined the vascular access team in 2017 and now serves as a board member of the Northeast Ohio Association of Vascular Access (NEO-AVA). She stated that she values the expertise within AVA and appreciates the recognition from her peers.

At Akron Children’s, Beckler inserts and manages vascular access devices, including peripheral IV catheters, midlines, and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). She often uses ultrasound guidance. She works with sedation services and interventional radiology, coordinates procedures for inpatients and outpatients, and educates nurses and residents. Beckler also helps train new vascular access nurses to maintain care standards.

Beckler received the award with two other recipients at the 2025 AVA Annual Scientific Meeting in Kissimmee, Florida, in September. Her nomination was supported by colleagues, including Dr. Janice McDaniel, director of interventional radiology at Akron Children’s.
