Former FirstEnergy execs continue push to limit testimony in HB 6 bribery trial

A pretrial hearing in the bribery case against former FirstEnergy executives Chuck Jones’ and Michael Dowling drew Ohio’s attorney general to Summit County Common Pleas Court on Oct. 31 as the defendants outlined their request to certain witness testimony impermissible at trial.

The hearing focused on testimony that Maureen Willis, Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel director, could provide against Jones and Dowling at a jury trial scheduled for January. The OCC advocates on behalf of Ohio’s residential utility customers.

Judge Susan Baker Ross and attorneys on both sides agreed to end the hearing after about three hours and continue it at a later date. Earlier in October, the judge decided on several other requests to allow or exclude testimony and evidence at the upcoming trial…
