BARBERTON, Ohio (WJW) – A line of cars packed the street in front of a local food distribution on Tuesday.
It was the first distribution at the Barberton Area Community Ministries since the SNAP program funding ended.
Swensons giving free kids meals to SNAP recipients
Executive Director Dorothy Suchka Sommerville said last week, their distribution neared a record number of recipients in advance of the SNAP benefits ending, so the expectation on Tuesday was for an even larger need. Still, the turnout exceeded her expectations.
“I’m just speechless, I’m amazed,” said Suchka.
Food distributions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Sommerville said last week they served more than 300 families representing around 1,000 individuals…
