Victim’s death 9 years after shooting draws manslaughter conviction in Summit County

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — A teen charged in 2016 with shooting a 19-year-old in the face has been convicted of manslaughter as an adult, following the victim’s death nine years after the shooting.

Damon’te M. Sherrod, 25, of Akron, previously pleaded no contest in the 2016 shooting of 19-year-old Mario Harris, according to a Wednesday news release from Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich.

The shooting happened on McKinley Avenue in Akron. Officers found Harris in the back of a stolen car, with a gunshot wound to the left side of his face, according to the release. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries…
