Stan Hywet Deck the Hall 2025: A Magical Tradition

Our family has been going to Stan Hywet’s Deck the Hall for about 15 years now. Every visit has been beautiful in its own way. Each year we go as a family of four but sometimes we bring along grandparents, friends, or our kids’ girlfriend and boyfriend. This year was totally different for us — and unexpectedly meaningful. Just hours after my brother’s funeral, with both kids home from college, we decided to keep our annual tradition and attend media night. I didn’t plan on going at all but it felt right. It’s something we’ve always done together. And honestly, it was exactly what we needed.

I share this because life doesn’t pause for the holidays. Sometimes you’re grieving. Sometimes you’re overwhelmed at work. Sometimes family tension or friendship stress takes the joy right out of the season. But Deck the Hall has a way of lifting your spirit the moment you arrive — it feels as if you’ve stepped outside of Akron and the stressors of everyday and into a world made entirely of Christmas magic.

A Brighter, More Dazzling Welcome Than Ever

From the moment we drove through the front gates, we noticed it — a more fantastic entrance under the lighted arches, more lights, new displays, and yet a familiarity that brought comfort to my family on a very sad day. Even the parking lot sparkled with gorgeous new installations. It set the tone for a night that felt comforting, joyful, and restorative.

This Year’s Theme: Bringing the Outside Indoors

This theme hit home for us — literally. We live in the woods, love nature, and spend much of the year hiking, gardening, or mushroom hunting. So seeing nature woven into holiday décor throughout the Manor House felt extra special.

And speaking of mushrooms… I could hardly contain my excitement. Room after room was filled with thoughtful touches: woodland textures, earthy details, and charming little surprises tucked into corners.

There was even a moss-and-nature apron on a mannequin, complete with tiny mushrooms that reminded me of buttons! I was thrilled. Even if you aren’t a mushroom or nature nerd like me, the creativity and freshness of the décor is beautiful. I’d vote this at Stan Hywet Deck the Hall is my favorite in 15 years. (Take a peek at the last 14 years of Deck the Hall here.)

Even beyond the nature theme, the entire manor house is just gorgeously decorated for Christmas. You are sure to get some creative ideas for your own home – or at least wishes!

Woodland Whimsy Everywhere

The “outside indoors” theme continued beautifully throughout the estate:

And my favorite surprise — polar bears sitting at a wooden table with a bunny and deer. Kids and adults alike will love the main living room this year!

Every space felt cheerful, thoughtful, and unique — and after 15 years of Deck the Hall, that’s saying something. There were little surprises everywhere, including elaborate LEGO Christmas scenes created by a local LEGO club.

One of my favorite stops every year is the greenhouse. It’s warm, beautifully decorated, and absolutely glowing with holiday charm. Don’t miss the towering poinsettia “tree” — it’s a perfect photo spot and always a family favorite. You can also shop for beautiful, unique poinsettias, Christmas cacti, and other gorgeous plants, all cultivated right on the grounds. They make wonderful gifts and bring a touch of Stan Hywet magic home for the season.

Deck the Hall Truly Is for All Ages

My kids have been coming since they were toddlers. Now, as young adults, they love it just as much — maybe even more. This year, it was just the four of us, which felt extra sweet under the circumstances. But some years, we go with friends, grandparents, cousins… and no matter who comes along, it always turns into a shared memory we treasure. I love remembering our years at Stan Hywet and even more so, reliving them those photos.

My kid were so little!

If you’re going through a tough season or even just a stressful week, trust me — Deck the Hall is the kind of experience that gently resets your spirit.

The Lights Outdoors? The Best in Summit County

Outside, the grounds are blanketed with 1.4 million lights — the biggest and best display in Akron or Summit County. The walking paths glow with color, laughter fills the air, and every turn offers something new. Don’t miss the light show choreographed to music, a favorite year after year. Don’t rush through the event, take time to enjoy the little touches of Christmas magic, try seeing it through the eyes of your kids, spouse, or whoever you are with.

Visit with Santa at Rudolph Corral

No trip to Deck the Hall is complete without a stop at Rudolph Corral, located right by the entrance near the tree-lighting area and the snack stations. This is where families can grab gingerbread, hot cocoa, coffee, warm pretzels, cookies, and other treats before heading in to see Santa.

My kids always knew this was the real Santa — he’s that good. The visit is calm and unhurried, giving children plenty of time to chat while you capture adorable photos with your own camera. To Santa’s left, you’ll find a charming animatronic Rudolph that wiggles and makes little sounds, which kids absolutely adore.

Be sure to stop by for a visit — it’s one of those Stan Hywet traditions that becomes a core family memory year after year.

And of course: Don’t forget or skip the fresh warm gingerbread cookies + rich hot cocoa = the perfect ending.
