Commuters in Summit County should brace themselves for a series of construction-related disruptions, as outlined in a recent update from the Ohio Department of Transportation. Roadwork across multiple freeways will impact travel times and create a need for detours, particularly within the Akron area.
Started Sunday evening, December 7, drivers will face closures on ramps from East Ave. to I-76 with detours running through Russel Ave., Manchester Rd., South St., and then back to I-76 east, additional closures that began Monday include Bowery St. under I-76, which will remain shut between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. with designated eastbound and westbound detour routes provided, those looking to travel from I-76 east to SR 59 east will also need to reroute via Main St. during the nighttime hours from December 8 through December 10.
Further disruptions will occur on December 9, with the closure of the ramps from South St. to I-76 east and from I-76 west to SR 8 north—at these times, travelers should follow the posted detour signage directing them through Main St. for eastbound traffic and Main St. back to I-76 east for those heading north on SR 8.
