Elderly Aurora woman scammed out of $12K by someone posing as FBI agent

SOLON, Ohio (WJW) — Solon police said it started with a phone call and ended with a senior citizen handing over thousands in cash to someone pretending to be an FBI agent.

“We had a 78-year-old Aurora resident came into the police station to report that she suspected that she had been the victim of a scam,” Solon police Lt. Bill Vajdich said.

The victim told police she received a call Thursday afternoon, Dec. 4, from someone claiming to be from the Chase Bank fraud department, saying someone was trying to withdraw $9,000 from her savings and that she needed to put a stop to the transaction.

“The person on the phone said in order to do that, they wanted to stay on the phone with her as she drove to a Chase branch and withdrew other money, to prevent that person from getting access to it,” Vajdich said…
