CLEVELAND (WJW) – The Parma man sentenced to life in prison after reportedly killing his 5-year-old son has died.
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections confirmed Wednesday that Matthew Ponomarenko died on Sunday, Dec. 7, due to an “apparent suicide.”

“The official cause of death will be determined upon receipt of the death certificate,” a statement from the ODRC said.
Ponomarenko, 34, told a 911 dispatcher, “I just killed my son,” in March 2021. He was later indicted on aggravated murder in Cuyahoga County. In November, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison…
