Akron police officer reprimanded in incident before shooting unarmed man

The 31-year-old Akron police officer who shot at an unarmed man 15 times outside a bar in Ellet in November, striking him multiple times, was reprimanded by supervisors for not determining whether a crime had occurred in a separate incident that occurred in March.

Akron Police Auditor Anthony Finnell released his review of the incident Nov. 10, one day before the officer shot the man in Ellet.

In the March 31 incident, the officer and his partner were dispatched to a North Main Street convenience store, where the owner told officers a man refused to leave his store, harassed customers and attempted to steal items…
