From rain to ice and snow: ODOT issues warning ahead of next storm

CLEVELAND (WJW) – A storm that forecasters predict will be a “soupy mess” could create hazardous driving conditions in Northeast Ohio on Thursday night and Friday morning.

The storm will start as rain, but after a cold front moves into the region, it’s expected to change into a mix of rain, ice and snow.

ODOT is warning drivers that road conditions could change rapidly on Thursday night into Friday morning, and crews will use what they believe is a reliable strategy to battle the mixed bag of conditions.

“Primarily, we’ll be salting. Anytime we get rain to start an event, we can’t pre-treat. It’ll just wash off any of the pre-treat that we do put on the road and when it does start to rain and then starts to transition to snow, we just like to keep that salt content high on the road and make sure nothing freezes,” said ODOT Public Information Officer Brent Kovacs…
