Two use-of-force lawsuits against the members of the Akron Police Department and the city of Akron reached settlements in recent weeks, although the terms of the deals have not yet been released.
The lawsuits alleged that officers used unreasonable or reckless force when an officer body-slammed Dierra Fields during a family argument and when another officer shot 15-year-old Tavion Koonce-Williams in the hand.
Filings in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas show a settlement was reached in Fields’ case after mediation took place on Nov. 20. Judge Jennifer Towell presides over this case…
