Two Suspects Indicted for Murder in Bath Township Airbnb Party Shooting

Two individuals have been indicted by a Summit County Grand Jury in connection with a deadly shooting that disrupted a birthday celebration at a Bath Township Airbnb rental. According to FOX 8, 18-year-old Derquan Edwards and 19-year-old Jashawn Stewart face 17 charges each, including murder and felonious assault. The charges stem from an incident on the night of Nov. 2 when 18-year-old Elijah Wells was killed, and several others were injured during a party reportedly attended by 250 to 300 people.

In the tragedy that ensued shortly after midnight, Elijah Wells suffered eight gunshot wounds and ultimately succumbed to his injuries on Nov. 6. Running parallel to the legal proceedings, Bath Township Police Chief Vito Sinopoli is asking for public assistance, looking for those with information to come forward, as quoted by Cleveland 19.

An investigation into the ability of these platforms, including Airbnb, VRBO, and Booking.com, to adhere to local ordinances by News 5 Cleveland revealed listings that seemingly flout municipal restrictions. Rob Fischer, director of the Center on Poverty and Community Development at Case Western Reserve University, reflected on these findings, saying, “It shows that their systems are not working very well.”…
