BROOK PARK, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol wants to hire 250 more troopers in the next year as the agency works to get ahead of attrition and maintain its workforce.
“We want to get ahead of the attrition and our workforce has been going down slightly. So we always want to make sure that we’re training our next replacements,” said Sgt. Jeremy Kindler of OSHP Public Affairs.
Short career timeline drives recruitment needs
Kindler said this is a short career compared to most other professions. Troopers can retire after 25 years and at age 52, which means they need to always have younger troopers coming up.
Currently there are around 1,370 troopers and they’re trying to get to a goal of 1,600 statewide…
