CANTON, Ohio — New court records and a courtroom appearance Tuesday are shedding more light on a Canton Walmart incident that escalated during a shoplifting investigation.
Twenty-one-year-old Shane Newman appeared in Canton Municipal Court, now charged with attempted murder and several other charges. His case will move to a grand jury, which will decide whether to indict him on those charges.
The charges stem from an incident last week inside the Walmart on Atlantic Boulevard. Body camera video, released earlier, shows a Canton police officer responding to a reported shoplifting call and escorting Newman and 23-year-old Katerina Jeffrey into the store’s loss prevention office…
