Uniontown police lieutenant fighting to recover after simple cold turned into double stroke

UNIONTOWN, Ohio — A routine morning in April turned into a life-changing event for Uniontown police lieutenant and Army veteran Nathan Weidman. What began as a simple cold escalated into a medical emergency that left the 44-year-old unable to walk or speak, and facing a long road to recovery.

“So on April 2nd, I woke up in the middle of the night getting ready for work and I realized that I had slurred speech and I couldn’t use the left side of my body, so I went to look in the mirror and I could see face droop,” Weidman recalled.

A coughing spell had torn an artery in his neck, sending a clot to his brain and triggering a double stroke…
