Local woman turning 100 in January

AKRON — Adele Hamad, shown below, will turn 100 Jan. 29. She has four children, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, with whom she loves spending time. She is pictured at right with her great-grandson, Emerson Morton. A lifelong Akronite, Hamad and her late husband, Cemil, owned two local restaurants together — Hamad’s on Main Street and Tip Top Café on Seiberling Street.

“I remember she used to make homemade donuts when we were younger, and the best banana cream pie,” said the couple’s youngest daughter, Camille Barbuto. Cemil died in 2024 at 101 years old.

Barbuto said her mother used to be an avid bowler and golfer. She bowled into her 90s, and still golfs in a league…
