Multiple Northeast Ohio police departments warn of scam callers demanding money

NORTHEAST, Ohio (WOIO) – Multiple Northeast Ohio police departments posted on social media Friday about reports of scam callers pretending to be law enforcement and demanding payment to avoid arrests.

The Akron Police Department, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office and the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office all issued a warning on social media about the reports.

The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office said the scammer in its county has been identifying himself as “Sergeant Daniels,” and that the caller claimed a person had not paid a fine and that a warrant had been issued…
