Summit County Executive urges residents to beware of jury duty scams

AKRON, Ohio – Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro is asking residents to take note of an increase in jury duty scams and learn how to avoid being targeted.

Recent scams have involved a person impersonating a government or law enforcement official who claims there is a warrant out for someone’s arrest because they missed jury duty, and that they must pay a fine to avoid jail time.

Often, the calls will appear to be from a familiar number or a number associated with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release.
