Driver in crash that killed Tusky Valley students finishes jail sentence

A Zanesville man found guilty of causing a fiery bus crash that killed six people, including three students from Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools, has been released after completing his sentence.

Jacob McDonald, 62, left the Licking County Justice Center on Jan. 17 after completing an 18-month sentence for causing the Nov. 14, 2023, crash on Interstate 70 in the western region of the county, according to jail records.

McDonald was driving a tractor-trailer around 8:45 a.m. that morning when he did not slow down for traffic that was slowing and stopped in front of him. McDonald ran over an SUV and slammed into the back of a charter bus carrying students from Tusky Valley to a band performance in Columbus…
