AKRON — Demolition of the former Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. plant, located at 1200 Firestone Parkway, is on hold — at least for now — as the City of Akron and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) work to find a solution to a dispute. The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The city has heard from residents during several recent Council meetings encouraging officials to save at least a portion of the building.
