Canton man who shot hospital worker not guilty by reason of insanity

CANTON ‒ The man accused of shooting a patient care technician at Aultman Hospital last year has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank G. Forchione made the determination during a hearing on Feb. 2, based on a psychologist’s report that said he was not capable of appreciating the wrongfulness of his actions at the time of the June 27 incident.

James L. Fair, 36, of Canton was a patient at the hospital when he began exhibiting signs of emotional distress, then was accused of grabbing the gun of a hospital security officer and shooting a 31-year-old patient care technician in the torso…
