Crews battle overnight blaze at condemned apartments in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Fire crews in Akron spent hours battling flames at a previously condemned apartment building.

The fire broke out at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 1431 S. Main Street.

It’s not clear what caused the fire.

According to a previous media release, the same building’s façade had partially collapsed almost one year ago to the date and the building was eventually condemned.

Officials said in the release, the Fire Department and City Service Director deemed the apartment building unsafe, and that the Fire Chief issued an “immediate evacuation order for all residents of the building.”…
