Canton threatening to withhold water service for new Perry Township customers

CANTON Ohio – The city of Canton provides water service for some 4,000 customers in Perry Township near Massillon, but Canton’s mayor said they don’t have to.

“I want to be very clear when I say this. I work for the 70,000 residents who live in the city of Canton. I do not represent the residents of Perry Township, even though we provide water to them,” said Mayor William Sherer.

In the middle of a dispute with Perry Township trustees over the development of a billion-dollar data center, the city of Canton has sent letters to Perry Township residents saying new water service contracts within the borders of Perry Township will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
