Newly formed Stark County Human Trafficking Task Force makes 1st arrests

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) — The newly formed Stark County Human Trafficking Task Force has made its first two arrests — Ohio men authorities said tried to meet up with minors for sex.

The men believed they were communicating with minors — but the minors were actually undercover officers, according to a Tuesday, Feb. 10, news release. Both were arrested after arriving at a predetermined meeting place. One of them reportedly pulled a gun.

“In our task force’s first operation, we focused on those who exploit or attempt to exploit minors,” Stark County Sheriff Eric Weisburn is quoted in the release. “These arrests go beyond those offenses, with one suspect arriving armed, and the other having multiple convictions for dangerous crimes with firearms. It’s alarming to think of these individuals arriving to meet who they believed to be minors, and we are relieved to have taken them off the streets.”…
