Smucker lawsuit alleges scientist stole PB&J secret

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Attorneys for the Orrville-based J.M. Smucker Co. allege a scientist who was fired for poor performance made off with trade secrets used in several of its products, including Uncrustables sandwiches.

A new lawsuit filed Thursday, Feb. 12, in Ohio’s Northern District federal court names Paul-Yvann Djamen, of Akron, a senior scientist hired to improve Smucker-brand products, including the crustless peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

The lawsuit states Djamen was hired in 2024 and was ultimately terminated in September 2025 “due to ongoing unsatisfactory performance.”…
