AKRON, Ohio — The City of Akron’s plans to tear down the former Firestone Plant #1 are on hold while the city grapples with how much of it to demolish and how to pay for it.
The plant was built in 1910, and the clock tower was added several years later. The conversation about the plant and the clock has been going on for several years, but time is winding down for decisions to be made on the fate of the clock. Community members are voicing their concerns and giving suggestions.
