HUDSON, OH (February 15, 2026) – At approximately 11:14 a.m. on Sunday, February 15, the Hudson Fire Department (HFD) responded to a report of an oil odor behind Hudson High School around 7250 Stow Road. Upon arrival, HFD discovered an outdoor oil separator storage tank, located at the oil/gas well beside the school’s maintenance building, was spilling oil from a hole rusted on the side of the tank. The spill caused oil to pool through a portion of the school’s back parking lot and soccer field.
A full hazmat response was requested and additional HFD crews arrived at the scene. Representatives from Summit Petroleum, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Hudson City Schools were all contacted regarding the incident per protocol. A clean-up contractor was called in, and after consultation with the Ohio EPA, a remediation plan was put in place and work began to pump out the remaining oil from the tank and remove the top layer of snow and ice off the soccer field to expose the extent of the oil spill to the soil…
