Akron, Ohio — The Take Me Home program in Summit County is expanding its program to include individuals with mental, behavioral, substance abuse and other disorders.

Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich and Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree announced the expansion on Thursday. The program is a joint effort between the prosecutor’s and sheriff’s offices, which was established in 2007 when an autistic child went missing and had communication difficulties. He could not tell law enforcement his address or his name.
Take Me Home uses a database that is only accessible to law enforcement, where parents and caretakers of those with communication difficulties can upload information about that person in case they go missing or become separated from their families or caretakers.
