A woman reported receiving a call from a person claiming to be a Medina County Sheriff’s Office employee Feb. 10 who told her she had missed jury duty and must come to the jail to “prove her innocence” or pay $4,000 by phone. The woman said she hung up and called the man back at the number he provided, which was the public contact number for the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, and the man answered and continued to ask her for money. Police contacted the sheriff’s office and were told there have been a number of such calls, with the department’s number being “spoofed.” Police advised the woman not pay anyone other than relatives over the phone and the incident remained under investigation at the time of the report…
