Akron police have arrested and charged 24-year-old Ronald “Ron Don” Jones in the April 13, 2025 shooting that killed 35-year-old Aharon Pittman Sr. inside a bar. Investigators say Pittman was shot during an altercation in the club and later pronounced dead, while the suspected gunman ran from the scene. According to Cleveland.com, Summit County jail records list charges against Jones including murder, carrying a concealed weapon, having weapons under disability, two counts of participating in a criminal gang and a probation violation. Detectives identified Jones as the suspected gunman after a multiyear investigation that they say connected him to the Down The Way (DTW) crew. Officials have not yet released a court date for his arraignment.
How Police Say The Shooting Unfolded
Officers were called just before 4 a.m. on April 13, 2025 to a bar in the 1300 block of Brittain Road, where they found Pittman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead on the dance floor. Witnesses told police there had been an altercation inside the establishment before a man opened fire and ran from the area. Those early details came out when the killing was first investigated, according to Cleveland19.
Arrest Came Amid Broader DTW Probe
Jones’ arrest is part of a larger multi-year inquiry into the Down The Way, or DTW, gang that resulted in nine indictments earlier this month. Reporting by the Akron Beacon Journal says detectives relied on the Akron Crime Gun Intelligence Center and worked with the U.S. Marshals Task Force to execute arrest warrants in the case. Police leaders described the indictments as the payoff from long-term investigative work aimed at disrupting organized violent activity in the city.
