The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously Thursday to advance a bipartisan package of bills named after a Streetsboro teenager who died by suicide after falling victim to sextortion.
The James T. Woods Act is named after 17-year-old James Woods, who took his own life on Nov. 19, 2022. A predator posing as a teenage girl on Instagram convinced him to send an explicit image, then threatened to expose him if he didn’t pay.
