Ohio man gets 5 to 10 years for Midland lottery ticket scheme

An Akron, Ohio man was sentenced Friday to five to 10 years in prison after earlier pleading no contest to felony criminal enterprise for illegally making off with about $4,000 in lottery tickets from a Midland store.

“I’m a changed man,” said Shiym Edwards, 30, before being sentenced by Midland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Beale.

Edwards’s attorney, Lisa Blanton, said that while lodged in the Midland County Jail for 442 days since his Dec. 19, 2024 arrest, he has done a lot of “soul searching.” She said he’s concluded that prison isn’t how he wants his life to go…
