CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) — Cuyahoga County is developing a “Deed Lock” program that officials say would be the first of its kind in the nation, designed to protect property owners from title fraud.
Brian O’Malley, Cuyahoga County’s Director of Transfer and Recording, said title fraud, a form of identity theft, is occurring frequently because forging a deed is currently too easy.
“They’re looking for empty homes because they realize if the house is empty, it’s going to take a while for someone to notice,” O’Malley said…
