New Barberton Council members learn the lay of the land, tackle top issues

BARBERTON — A month into their inaugural terms, two of Barberton’s most recent elected officials weighed in on what they see as the top issues facing the city — and how they hope to address them.

“My top priorities in office will be communication to Ward 2 residents [and] getting feedback on what they feel are their issues,” said Bryan Poorman (D-Ward 2), who bested Republican challenger Mike Hoover and Independent write-in candidate Chuck Easterling — the incumbent Ward 2 Councilman — in the Nov. 4 General Election. “My other priority is learning about the city. There is so much to learn about city operations.”

Poorman said he and fellow freshman Council members Chris Stoll (D-at large) and Julie Miller (D-at large) have toured several city departments, adding he has also signed up for training from Ohio Municipal League for new council members…
