CRS Panel Urges Radio To Get Local With Community Engagement.

Rubber City Radio WQMX Akron, OH (94.9) PD Sarah Kay led Thursday’s “Get Local: It’s Easier Than You Think” CRS panel, featuring syndicated personality Marissa Lanchak, Townsquare Media Evansville, IN/Owensboro, KY, Director of Content Chad Benefield, and ADX Communications “Cat Country 98.7” WYCT Pensacola, FL, morning co-host Brent Lane as panelists. Learning each market is more difficult for a syndicated personality like Lanchak than a well-staffed local team like WYCT, but learning how to pronounce local streets is a good start.

“We have two wonderful street names,” Lane said during the panel. “One is ‘Chumuckla’ Highway and the other is ‘Texar.’ The best thing our competition ever does — and we used to like to record it — they would bring in traffic reporters from Atlanta, and they would screw it up every time. Getting the names right is important. When I was hired 20 years ago, the advice I was given was, ‘Go drive all the roads in this three-county area. Just go drive everywhere. Take notes of all of the names that you weren’t sure of — I give that advice to everybody we hire. ‘This 297A really isn’t 297A. That is Chumuckla Highway.”…
