Medina 6th grader’s meteorite find goes viral for sweet reason

MEDINA, Ohio (WJW) – Nearly one week after an eight-ton six-foot diameter meteor broke apart over Lake Erie, showering smaller meteorites over southern medina county, many of the meteorite hunters who descended on Northeast Ohio are leaving for Houston Texas.

Another meteor believed to have been about one ton and three feet across broke apart there on Saturday while entering the earth’s atmosphere, leaving smaller space rocks scattered over neighborhoods there.

But here in our area, the reaction to one find has gone viral online, viewers sharing the emotional celebration of a Medina 6th grader.

“Think for me as a parent going out with my son and making an incredible memory that I never thought I’d have the opportunity to make in our hometown is something that I will never forget,” said Ashley Waite, who spent fifteen hours of her own time searching and finding two smaller meteorites…
