Sleeping elementary school child left behind on local school bus; driver fired

COPLEY, Ohio (WJW) — After a child was left behind on a local school bus earlier this month, the bus driver was fired, the district confirmed Tuesday.

In a letter to school families,Copley-Fairlawn City Schools Superintendent Aimee Kirsch said that an elementary student fell asleep on a bus the morning of March 12. The driver of the bus, who is required by state law to check the bus for any student left behind, did not do the safety inspection and missed the child.

“Any driver who fails to complete a required safety inspection is immediately terminated from working with our district and that is what happened in this instance,” Kirsch wrote in the letter.
