Akron native Paul Tazewell is on a major roll right now. If you went to Playhouse Square to see the musical Suffs about the suffragette movement, you saw his costumes onstage. If you saw the movie Wicked, you saw his sparkling, extravagant, labor-intensive costumes. (He also did the costumes for the sequel.) He’s done costumes for stage productions of Hamilton, Death Becomes Her, In the Heights and The Color Purple, and films including The Immortal Life of Harriet Lacks and the 2021 remake of West Side Story. He created Chappell Roan’s upcycled look for the 2025 Met Gala made from 830 leather pieces. He’s won an Oscar, an Emmy and a Tony for his work (alas, he cannot be an EGOT winner because the Grammys don’t have a costume category!)
