A quiet Thursday evening in Canton took a tragic turn when a man was found unresponsive inside a burning backyard shed and later pronounced dead, according to the Canton Fire Department. Crews pulled the victim from the small outbuilding and started life-saving efforts on the spot, but they were unable to save him. Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fire.
Firefighters were called to 2658 Kirby Ave NE around 5:20 p.m. after reports of a shed on fire in a backyard. When crews arrived, they found a 10-by-12 shed with light smoke coming from the doorway, according to News 5 Cleveland.
Firefighters quickly went inside, removed a man from the shed, and began CPR. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The city’s crisis response team was called in to support residents and the victim’s family, and no firefighter injuries were reported, as noted by Cleveland 19.
